When our founder, Dr. Steven Charlap, a 40+ year licensed physician, lost his brother, to a misdiagnosis, everything changed for him. What began as a tragedy became his passionate mission to transform modern medicine through evidence, empathy, and innovation. Dr. Steven Charlap’s brother, a cardiologist, was lost to the same healthcare system he trusted. It wasn’t malpractice or negligence. It was the invisible, systemic flaws in diagnosis that claim nearly 400,000 American lives and disable another 400,000 each year.
Refusing to accept that reality, Dr. Charlap dedicated 5 years to research at Stanford and Harvard. His work reshaped the scientific understanding of early detection, diagnostic accuracy and misdiagnoses.
As part of two research teams, Dr. Charlap published groundbreaking findings that even Stanford physicians, among the world’s best, struggled with certain risk assessments, among the fundamental causes of misdiagnoses.

The National Cancer Institute under the National Institutes of Health awarded Medome and Dr. Charlap, as principal investigator a research grant to tackle early cancer detection. The UK’s National Health Services followed with their own grant, recognizing the global urgency of this work.
